Tainan Railway Station 臺南車站

1/29/2012 Taiwan Explorer

Tainan Railway Station 臺南車站 is the central and main railway station in Tainan City. If you ever travel to this beautiful city, you will most definitely arrive here at some point. Trains from the north (Taichung, Taipei) as well as trains from the south (Kaohsiung) meet here. The station is also a turning point for buses and cabs. If you plan to rent a scooter, there are a few shops in the area, which is very convenient. Aside from that, it's not the most charming part of Tainan - in order to see more interesting places, you will need to go eastwards. The station was opened in the year 1900 during the Japanese rule over Taiwan, but the construction was wooden at that time. In 1936 the current building was completed (source).
