Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall 國立國父紀念館 is a famous memorial hall in Taipei, it's one of the city's famous landmarks. It's dedicated to Sun Yat-sen (Chinese 孫中山, 12 November 1866 – 12 March 1925). He is seen as the "Father of the Republic of China", the official name of the country, that is today commonly known as Taiwan.

A brief History of the building

The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was completed in 1972 during the late Chiang Kai-shek administration, but the initial works begun already in 1964. President Chiang's official groundbreaking ceremony took place a year later in 1965. The building was designed by Wang Dahong 王大閎, a famous architect, who is also known for designing the Lin Yutang House 林語堂宅 in 1963.
