Xinzhuang 新莊區, Taipei

2/21/2010 Taiwan Explorer
1. Introduction

• Known for: small temples
• Population: 407,000 (2012, source)
• Wade-Giles: Hsin-chuang
• Pinyin: Xīnzhuāng
• Romaji: Shinsou
• Map: My map of Sinjhuang

Xinzhuang 新莊區 is one of Taipei's most populous districts. It's mostly residential and industrial. It used to be one of the first settlements on the left side of Tamsui River opposite Monga and Tataocheng during the Qing Dynasty. There are still several small temples found here, the whole district is very big and expanding in recent years. A new MRT line is connecting it with Taipei's center, which is causing a small construction boom. The name simply means "New Village". Here are the must see buildings and parts of Sinjhuang (my personal recommendations): Sinjhuang Night Market, Fuda Night Market and Ciyou Temple.
